Title: Willst du
Artist: Alligatoah
Album: Triebwerke
Year: 2013
Alligatoah is one of Germany's most high-profile musicians right now. His earlier music can be classified as rap, but starting with the album "Triebwerke" he began to make music that was more radio-friendly, in which the verses are mostly "spoken singing" (Sprechgesang) and the chorus (or hook) is a catchy, sung melody. His lyrics are exceptionally sophisticated, both in their subject matter and their wordplay. This makes his songs difficult to translate, but his non-German speaking fanbase has gotten so large that I felt compelled to try. If there's anything that still doesn't make sense, leave a comment!
Accordingly to Alligatoah, "Willst du" is about how the media influences the youth to find romanticism in self-destructive behavior, in this case, drugs. The song was a hit, but quickly became infamous for being misunderstood. Many listeners only concentrated on the words of the hook ("do you want to take drugs") and understood the song as celebrating drugs, when in reality it's saying the complete opposite.
Video: The music video is a parody of the filming style used in Cro's song "Du."

wie man eine Liebe
maximal romantisch lebt
will jeder wissen
*1 keiner hilft uns, Fair Play
Gott sei dank
gibt es Film und Fernsehen
da, wo ich..
..meine Bildung hernehme
glaub mir das wird super
für deine Story
hab ich schon den Grund
weshalb du in deiner Jugendphase.. ..wutgeladen bist
“dein Papa kam nicht zu deinem Schultheaterstück”
bei mir finden wir schon^ was
*2 wo der Schuh gerade drückt
*3 wir kennen uns seit X Jahren
du brauchst jetzt nix sagen
ich wollt dich fragen
wollen wir
den nächsten Schritt wagen?
Prehook 1:
willst du mit mir Drogen nehmen?
*4 dann wird es rote Rosen regnen
ich habe's in einer Soap gesehen
willst du mit mir Drogen nehmen?
Hook:
komm, wir gehen
komm, wir gehen zusammen
*5 den Bach runter
komm, wir gehen
komm, wir gehen zusammen
den Bach runter
komm, wir gehen
komm, wir gehen zusammen
den Bach runter
denn ein Wrack ist ein Ort
an dem ein Schatz schlummert
Strophe 2:
jetzt sind wir frei
chillen auf gigantischen Berggipfeln
du musst dann sagen
“keiner kann..
*6..unseren Schmerz diggen”
wir sammeln erstmal fröhliche Kiff-Sonntage
für die hituntermalte Schnittmontage.
komm schon, das wird romantisch
wenn ich dich halte
damit du nicht
auf den Klorand brichst
dann verdienen wir ein Kerzen-Paket
für die erste WG
*7 auf 'nem Herren-WC
eine herbstliche Szene
weil es passt
und ich falle auf die Knie
und hol aus meiner Jacke
eine kleine Schachtel
du weißt was abgeht
(Prehook 1)
(Hook)
(Strophe 3)
und dann brauchen wir epische Fights
wer das lausige H kriegt
Zuschauer: rauchende Babys
.. nirgendwohin fahren!"
ich werde euch mit 'ner Axt..
..durch ein Labyrinth jagen
im Winter
weil ich das Bild feiere
mach unser Leben filmreifer
*9 als Till Schweiger
es hat Action, Drama und Comedy
*10 also was sagst du, mon cheri?
Prehook 2:
willst du mit mir Drogen nehmen?
dann wird es rote Rosen regnen
um dem Kinofilm die Show zu stehlen
willst du mit mir Drogen nehmen?
(Hook)
Outro:
komm, wir gehen
(den Bach runter)
komm, wir gehen
(den Bach runter)
komm, wir gehen
komm, wir gehen
zusammen den Bach runter

how one lives a love
most romantically
everyone wants to know [that]
no one helps us, Fair Play
thank God
there are movies and TV
that’s where I..
..get my education from
believe me, it’ll be great
for your story..
..I already have the reason
why you were full of anger..
..in your juvenile phase
“your Dad didn’t come to your
school play”
for me, we’ll find something
where my style’s getting cramped
we’ve known each other X years
you don’t need to say anything
I wanted to ask you
do we want
to brave the next step?
Pre-Hook 1:
do you want to do drugs with me?
then it’ll rain red roses
I saw it in a soap opera
do you want to do drugs with me?
Hook:
c’mon, we’re going
c’mon, we’re going together
down the drain
c’mon, we’re going
c’mon, we’re going together
down the drain
c’mon, we’re going
c’mon, we’re going together
down the drain
‘cause a shipwreck is a place
where a treasure slumbers
Verse 2:
now we’re free
chilling on giant mountain tops
then you have to say
“no one can..
..understand our pain”
first we collect happy
weed-Sundays
for our hit-studded montage
c’mon, it’ll be romantic
when I hold you
so that you don’t
throw up on the toilet bowl rim
then we deserve a candle pack
for the first shared apartment
in a men’s bathroom
an autumn scene
because it fits
and I get down on my knees
and take out of my jacket
a little box
you know what’s going down
(Pre-Hook 1)
(Hook)
(Verse 3)
and then we need epic fights
who gets the lousy heroin
[the] audience: smoking babies
they aren’t cared for
they have to spoon canned soup
and they play with doll heads..
..separated from the bodies
you want to get out with..
..a cliche escape to a country house
then I yell something like
“I’m about to hurt somebody!
you don’t want to drive..
..anywhere with the kids!”
I’ll hunt you down with an axe
through a labyrinth
in the winter
‘cause I celebrate the image
make our life more film-worthy
than Till Schweiger
it has action, drama and comedy
so, what do you say, my dear?
Pre-Hook 2:
do you want to do drugs with me?
then it’ll rain red roses
to steal the show from the movie
do you want to do drugs with me?
(Hook)
Outro:
c’mon, we’re going
(down the drain)
c’mon, we’re going
(down the drain)
c’mon, we’re going
c’mon, we’re going
together down the drain

REFERENCE/WORD PLAY: "keiner hilft uns, Fair Play"
Fair Play is a brand of cigarettes. It could also have a 2nd meaning with the English term “fair play,” suggesting that the protagonist and his partner are "playing fair" because they're not receiving outside help in their lives

diggen =means here= realize
AND/OR
diggen =means here= do drugs
It doesn’t mean "dig" like in English. The line in German basically says “no one can understand our pain” AND “we can’t do drugs to get out of our pain”
*7
The protagonist suggests that some men’s bathroom, where his partner threw up, could be considered their first apartment. The candles are presumably to hide the smell of the drugs.
*8
IDIOM: "gleich rutscht mir die Hand aus"
=literally= soon [my] hand'll slip [from] me

“mon cheri” = my dear (French)
Most Germans know this term because of the chocolate of the same name.
